First int'l poultry exhibition takes place in Yaoundé

Know-how, innovations and tools for production among other topics will be discussed as early as next Thursday, as part of an international exhibition bringing together stakeholders in the sector.

Focusing on the poultry industry in Cameroon, the first edition of the international poultry exhibition of Yaoundé (SAVI) at Turcam Hall will be held 23-October 25.

The event will bring together domestic and foreign exhibitors (Nigeria, Gabon, Côte d'Ivoire, Congo, South Africa, Central African Republic, France, Italy, Turkey...).

A hundred domestic and foreign companies are also expected according to the organizers. The announcement was made during a press conference held Thursday in Yaounde.

Indeed, professionals, providers, partners of the poultry sector and Governments will take part in this event organized by the Ministry of livestock, fisheries and animal Industries (Minepia) and the poultry Association of Cameroon (IPAVIC).

A few days to the opening of the SAVI, cereal, importers of raw materials, veterinary, producer of fish meal, poultry slaughterhouses, laboratories of research and analyses, training institutes have already booked their stands.

These (9 m²) are also free and paid only in case of booking for more of a space. According to the Commissioner-general of the fair, alet ma Njami mal Njam, revealed that it is aimed at "exposing the know-how, innovations in the poultry industry professionals as well as to work for the modernisation of production tools."

Currently, the poultry sector represents 1% of the domestic product GDP national and incubates 14 per cent of the needs of the population in animal proteins.

"The food industry is a highly strategic area.” It is necessary that Cameroonians produce enough to meet consumption needs and that the activity of these sectors far less arouses interest and generates resources", added the Commissioner General of the SAVI.
