The Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries has designed four key programmes whose development will lead to an evolution in production from 618,880 tons in 2010 to 867,732 tons in 2015 and 1.264 million tons in 2020.

The lofty ambition is contained in the explanatory note Minister Dr Taiga presented to the Committee on Finance and Budget of the National Assembly Sunday, December 2 morning as he defended the 2013 to 2015 draft budgetary allocation of the Ministry that stands at FCFA 90 billion.

He explained that MINEPIA's 2013 action plan is attached to its commitment authorization worth FCFA 29,550,500,000, payment appropriation worth FCFA 28,766,000,000 and marks an overall increase of FCFA 3,053,000,000 in absolute value and 11.87 per cent in relative value compared to 2012 fiscal year. The programmes the draft budget is intended to finance designed and approved during inter-ministerial meetings include the programme for the development of animal production and industries; programme for improving livestock health coverage and the fight against zoonotic diseases; programme for developing fishery productions and finally that for controlling and improving the institutional framework.

The programmes fall within two main strategic areas that are the improvement of productivity and competitiveness of animal industries and fisheries as well as institutional development and capacity building.
