A memorandum of understanding for the construction of a tram line in Yaounde and Douala subsequently was signed in Yaounde between the Cameroonian Government and the Belgian company, Prefarail. The company was represented by its Director General, Joseph Rode.

For the Cameroonian side, the memorandum was signed by the Minister of economy and planning (Minepat), Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi focussing on the financing and construction of a tram line from 50 km to serve Yaoundé.

This tram will go a long way to solve the problem of mass transport faced in Yaoundé and the major cities of the country, since the Cameroon (Sotuc) urban transport company went bankrupt in the 1990s.

This project is fully financed by the Belgian company Prefarail, which will handle in the form of a lease for a specified period that has not been disclosed. It will however be announced before the final transfer to the Cameroonian State.

After the construction of the tramway at the national political capital, whose construction could start in 2015, the Belgian company also plans to build the same infrastructure in the city of Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon.

The Government seems to have finally understood the importance of addressing concerns of the people, prioritising sectors that benefit the public that captures the government's vision summed up in such great achievements.
