Government to invest in cassava processing

The government of Cameroon made the promise; to help farmers increase production and encourage an on-the-spot transformation as a means of creating more jobs.

The promise was recently fulfilled as government supported common initiative groups embarked on a large-scale cassava processing initiative and the first fruits of the venture is visible, the end product now on the plates.

A select group of Cameroonians and diplomats tasted the new brand of cassava made pasta in Yaounde during a gastronomic ceremony chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Essimi Menye.

The cassava made pasta is the first of several products which government plans to produce from the tons of cassava to be produced in Cameroon in the months ahead.

The new brand, according to experts, gives added value to cassava to be consumed by households and fast food businesses including bakeries.

Accordingly, a new brand of cassava flour will henceforth compete with imported wheat used for the production of pastries of all sorts, spaghetti and pasta presently in the market.

According to predictions, the cassava flour will easily be embraced by consumers due to its high quality.
