Govt issues Douala-Yaounde highway construction tender

The authorities in Cameroon have issued a bid to contract the Technical Study Office to participate in a feasibility study for the building of a highway connecting the capital Yaounde with the main commercial city Douala.The 350km-long stretch covers other secondary sections which extend to a distance of 243 kilometers.

The secondary sections include the Bibodi-Douala highway (136km), the Edea-Kribi road (120km).

The aim is to facilitate smooth traffic between the commercial capital Douala and the seaside resort city of Kribi located in the south of the country and is where the first deepwater port of Cameroon is being built.

Also in the offing is the future 100 km highway connecting Douala to Limbe, a touristic town situated in south-eastern Cameroon.

The bid for tender which the Cameroonian government also covers the section of the Yaounde-Douala highway connecting the city of Bafoussam, the capital of the Western region.

Under the bid, the Technical Study Office must have an average turnover of CFA 500 million over the last five years and strong references in the achievement of similar constructions with an amount in excess of or equivalent to CFA 250 million francs, the minister of Public Works explained.
