An invitation to tender has been issued by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, for the construction of fibre optic loops in Cameroonian towns of Limbe (South West), Maroua (Far North) and Buea (Southwest).

Funded by the Special telecommunication Fund fed by various operators in the country, construction of the new optical loops are to start before the end of this year, according to Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

According to sources, this will help to extend the fibre optic network in the country by 49.4 km in the city of Maroua, 35.2 km in Limbe and 29.1 in Buea, meaning about 104 km of additional optical fibre.

As a reminder, Cameroon currently has 6,000 km of optical fibre, and plans to reach a length of 10 to 20,000 km in the long term.
