While economic actors already anticipate the start of activities in the Kribi port square, located in the South of Cameroon, the Government plans to make this seaside city the center of economic growth.

This pole should be structured around industry and tourism, in order to maximize the impact of the Kribi deep-sea port on economic growth and job creation. It is in this context that the Ministry of Economy recently launched a call for tenders for the development of a strategy for the development of Kribi.

According to sources introduced within the Department in charge of the economy, the ambition of the Government is twofold. It is first to identify the expectations of potential investors like Rio Tinto (aluminium refinery), GDF Suez (which should build a plant for liquefaction of natural gas in Kribi) or even Cam Iron (who operate the Mbalam iron and built the pier railway of the Kribi deep sea port). They will also assess the ability of Cameroonian SMEs to ensure subcontracting for multinationals in the context of the above-mentioned projects.

This plan which is described as ambitious by some administrative officials, however comes with some problems in its connection with the strategy for growth and employment Document (Ocsg), it doesn't seem to have taken into account the governmental ambitions for the city of Kribi.

In conclusion, experts will be retained for the study of the project, by local and international partners.
