In the coming days, the Cameroonian Government will sign a loan agreement amounting to 26 billion Cfa francs with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the partial financing of the project of construction of the road Batschenga-Yoko-Ntui-Lena, of 248.6 Km long, in the central region.
This was revealed in a decree signed on March 5, 2015, by the president of the Republic, Paul Biya, who empowered the Minister of the economy to sign this agreement for funding on behalf of the country.
As a reminder, the linear concerned by this funding is part of a global project of tarring 598 Km of roads between the central region of Cameroon (Batschenga-Yoko-Ntui-Lena) and the Adamawa region, in the northern part of the country (Tibati – Ngaoundere). This project will cost 258 billion Cfa francs. It is not only financed by JICA, but by the AfDB, BDEAC, AFD and the State of Cameroon.
According to the ADB, this road which is the shortest route (200 km less) to connect southern and Northern Cameroon, is mostly "one of the Cameroonian links essential to the facilitation of Interstate transport in Central Africa, by offering a new alternative for transit to Chad a landlocked country in the region that mainly receives supplies via Douala Port.
