Japan- Africa cooperation: the Yaoundé conference ends today

The first ministerial meeting to evaluate the level of implementation of the Yokohama declaration and Yokohama action plan 2013-2017 ends Monday, May 5, 2014.

The Yokohama declaration and Yokohama Action Plan 2013-2017 that was drawn up at the end of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development TICAD V meeting in June 2013 is intended to further enhance Japan – Africa cooperation in the area of economic development, peace and stability.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Philemon Yang, President Paul Biya’s personal representative. In his speech, the Prime Minister encouraged participants to explore ways of developing transport infrastructure between African countries to ease transactions, amongst other demands.

Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kishida Fumio stated his country’s determination to work for a sustainable development in the African continent.

It is worth indicating that since the inception of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development twenty years ago, Cameroon has benefitted from a number of grants, concessional loans as well as technical support from Japan.
