Korean gov’t to develop Cameroon’s e-procurement system

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea H.E. Cho June-Hyuck, has signed an accord with the Cameroon Gov’t represented by the Minister of Economy Planning and Regional Development, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, to develop Cameroon’s E-procurement system and Construct a national institute of vocational training worth FCFA 4 billion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador June-Hyuck said the Korean government made arrangements for grants to the Cameroon government in order to develop the public contract and professional training sectors in Cameroon.

“With the signing of this Arrangement for the establishment of, first, the E-procurement master plan in Cameroon and, second, the National Institute of Vocational Trainers and Program Development, Cameroon will benefit from an extended cooperation in; the development of Cameroon’s e-procurement system, construction of the national institute, provision of equipment and materials in connection with the projects.

Volunteers and experts will be dispatch from Korea to share knowledge and experience and Cameroonians will be invited to training programs in Korea. ,” June-Hyuck said.

Cho June-Hyuck added that, the assistance will greatly contribute to enabling Cameroon to effectively meet the multiple challenges of development and will further consolidate and expand bilateral relations.

“The fruitfulness of such expanding relations is already very visible not only in the domain of development assistance, but also in the investments of Korean businessmen in Cameroon. Notably, Korean companies are participating actively in the Limbe Deep Seaport project and the Limbe Cement Factory known as G-Power Cement,” he asserted.

Hyuck-June reiterated that, the Korean government has plans to further extend cooperation activities to other sectors. “We are pleased to be Cameroon’s development partner and we have plans to further extend our cooperation activities this year, more specifically in the sector of E-Government system as well as the development of renewable energy-generating projects, so as to effectively support Cameroon in taking necessary steps towards achieving its objective of becoming an emerging country by 2035,” he said.

Meanwhile the Minister of Public Contract, Abba Sadou, while expressing his gratitude to the Ambassador said, thanks to cooperation between both countries, Cameroon government shall adopt a system of On-line contract award and also make other relevant changes aimed at improving the contract award process in the country. “Online contract award will help reveal Cameroon transparency at the internationally which will attract both national and international investors,” he affirmed.

Minister Abba Sadou acknowleged that, the grants will go a long way to help Cameroon with the ongoing reforms geared towards achieving emergence. For his part, the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Zacharie Perevet, said the government has already allotted land for the construction of the Vocational institution and three excellent centers in Limbe, Douala and Sangmelima.
