Recently, an MTN delegation met with members of the Finance and Production & Trade Commissions.

During these talks held at Cameroon’s National Assembly, the three entities broached the issues concerning the poor quality of service experienced with the operator since it sold its telephone towers.

MTN CTO, Christian Ngono, explained that the sale of the telephone towers was not the reason for the decline in the company’s network.

Instead, he cited the regular breaks in Cameroon Telecommunication’s (Camtel) fibre optic cables.

Camtel is the country’s exclusive provider of this technology. According to Mr Ngono, the sale of the towers enabled investment in new, low cost services.

Although the topic was not officially on their agenda, MTN heads could not help but discuss Viettel’s request to have its 3G exclusivity extended.

For MTN, this restrictive granting of licensing solely to Viettel is scandalous and will seriously harm Cameroon’s interests.
