MTN Foundation to finance water distribution in 10 Cameroonian villages

The MTN Foundation and the Saint Martin Foundation, which is running the drinking water project in Otélé, a locality situated not far from the capital, signed an agreement on March 26, 2014 to finance the construction of drinking water access points in 10 villages in the central, coastal and southern regions of Cameroon.

According to the press release made public by the MTN Foundation, the water sources, for an undisclosed amount, “will improve the living conditions of over 7,000 persons in the said villages and significantly reduce their exposure to water-related illnesses which are among causes of the high infant mortality level still seen in the developing country.”

Since its creation in 2005, the MTN Foundation, which annually receives 1% of MTN Cameroon’s profits, has built numerous hand-pump wells, providing drinking water to close to 100,000 persons in the Adamaoua, Coastline, West, South and South-West.
