Mobile Telephone Network, MTN Cameroon, has added the cities of Limbe and Kumba in the South West to its growing 4G LTE network.

Bafoussam in the West was also covered in the company’s latest drive to “provide Cameroonians with the tools needed to access the new digital world”.

At the close of 2015, MTN became the first company to launch a 4G LTE network in the country.

MTN has now extended the 4G LTE technology to eight major cities, which cover more than half the national population, in seven months.

“At MTN, we are conscious that the telecommunications sector is today a sustainable development catalyst in Cameroon and we intend to contribute significantly in this regard,” said CEO Philisiwe Sibiya in a statement.

The company says it has spent some FCFA 60 billion in one year to deploy the technology, which helps customers access high-speed internet via 4G enabled SIM cards and devices.

“We are proud to be a major driver of this digital transformation through the provision of infrastructure like the WACS optical fibre landing station, 4G technology, as well as innovative products and services which are revolutionising the way Cameroonians work and live,” Sibiya said.
