MTN to extend 4G network in northern Cameroon

ubscribers of mobile operator MTN Cameroun in the cities of Garoua and Ngaoundéré, in northern Cameroon, will benefit from the joys of the 4G by end July 2016, the MD of the company, Philisiwe Sibiya, announced.

We can note that the town of Maroua, capital of the Extreme-North region under the threat of the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram, will be the only regional capital in northern Cameroon to not profit from MTN’s 4G.

Even so, connecting the towns of Garoua and Ngaoundéré to the 4G from MTN Cameroon will bring to 10 the number of towns in the country which will benefit from this technology enabling access to a very high speed internet connection, among other things.

For the moment, we learn, the 4G network of the Cameroonian subsidiary of the South African operator MTN International covers 53% of the country, thanks to investments estimated at FCFA 60 billion.

Since July 4, the towns of Kumba and Limbé, located in the South-Western region; then Bafoussam, the Western regional capital, have been connected to the 4G of this operator, thus joining five other cities, including four connected since December 2015, when the 4G network was launched by MTN Cameroun.
