In a statement released on Thursday, April 21, 2016, the Minister of Commerce, Luc Magloire Atangana Mbarga, calls traders and consumers on the existence on the Cameroonian market, of confectionery unfit for consumption.

snickers“The American Group MARS INC ordered the withdrawal of its chocolate bars and confectionery of brands MARS, SNICKERS, CELEBRATIONS, MILKY, WAY, TWIX, DOVE, BOUNTY, SKITTLES, BALISTO and M & M’S. The products covered by this measure are those whose use-by dates range from June 19, 2016 to 08 January 2017.

The Minister of Commerce therefore calls on the importers and distributors of the products concerned to kindly withdraw them immediately from the market, and at the same time he calls on consumers to be very vigilant “writes Luc Magloire Atangana Mbarga.

The alert of the minister is silent on the reasons why these products are being withdrawn. But we remember that last February, the US food giant announced a recall from fifty countries, of some of its products after the discovery of “a small piece of red plastic” in a confectionery of the MARS brand in a Dutch factory.

The full list of affected countries were not disclosed. Two months later, it is revealed that Cameroon was among the countries. So, caution and vigilance is highly primordial in our supermarkets and other shops.
