In 2013, in Central Africa and the West, the Swiss food company, Nestle, decreased 2.69% salt content of all of its culinary products, compared to the year 2012.
Some of these products including the Maggi cube which has rather been enriched with iron according to an announcement on November 14, 2014 by the Cameroon subsidiary of Nestlé on the celebration of the world day against diabetes in Douala.
Indeed, "last year, the company committed to reducing salt across its portfolio of brands to support the objective of the WHO for a 5g per person and per day maximum salt intake by 2025".
Following this commitment, "Nestlé has already improved the composition of more than 20 of its brands such as Maggi to reduce the salt content in these foods, making them healthier for consumers". By 2016, 10% that content in salt, sugar and saturated fats will be reduced in Nestlé products, promised the firm.
As a reminder, in Cameroon, countries from which Nestlé supplies across Central Africa region, the Swiss food company produces and sells essentially the Maggi cube, which represents 90% of the production of the factory of Bonaberi. Nestlé Cameroon officially realizes a monthly turnover of 5 billion Cfa francs in the six countries of the CEMAC.
