The Member of Parliament for Bamenda/Bali recently handed over farm tools to 500 farmers in Bamenda III Subdivision. The donation made up of hoes and cutlasses according to the Parliamentarian is intended to promote food sufficiency in the sub division.
Welcoming the beneficiaries, the Parliamentary Micro Project Committee PMPC leader explained that the farmers were chosen by councilors of the subdivision. With 31 councilors Asobo Mbuya Samuel stated that each council constituency produced 15 farmers making a total of 465 plus some special constituencies like the Fon’s palaces of Nkwen and Ndzah moved the number to 500.
He specified that there were 211 men and 289 women representing in relative terms 42.3% and 57.8% respectively. The committee head elaborated that instead of giving items to individuals that could satisfy only specific people there was need to chose items that could eventually produce for the entire family like the farms.
Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwie on his part appreciated Honorable Fobi Nchinda Simon for keeping to his words. According to Fongu, the MP had promised to give his grants to be managed by a local committee and that he has done.
Addressing the assembly as the political supervisor of Hon Fobi Nchinda in the area Lucas Ngu Afong presented the parliamentary as a true messenger of the Social Democratic Front SDF. The District Chairman edged the beneficiaries to believe in his party following the example of the Parliamentarian.
While regretting that the items were small, Hon Fobi blamed the small size of the PMP grants. He continued his campaign for development funds to be put at the disposal of parliamentarians instead of a merger eight million.
He reminded the farmers that he developed the plan for the industrial zone in Bamenda before announcing that he has been working hard for the creation of a dry port in Bamenda which he said will be in Chomba in Bamenda II subdivision. This he added will decongest the seaports in the country and equally ease the clearing of goods from abroad.
The councilors will later line with their communities to collect the hoes and cutlasses amidst great euphoria.
