Although it is now officially recognized as Cameroonian territory, after a legal battle of several years with Nigeria, the Bakassi peninsula is still mostly populated by Nigerians.

Bertha Doh, the head of the Coordinating Committee and monitoring of priority projects in the Bakassi peninsula says to encourage Cameroonians to occupy this territory rich in oil and fish products, we must generate massive migration to the peninsula.

To do this, she says, the government has already encouraged Cameroonian fishermen to settle there.

But Ms. Doh says, the main interest to Cameroonians residing in Bakassi is the extension to this part of the country, plantations of agro-industrial company, Pamol, which plans to create a palm farm of 500 hectares , for a start, and build a soap factory.

This project for which the Cameroonian government has already authorized the release of a sum of 1 billion CFA francs will create 5000 jobs in the peninsula says Ms. Doh

Installing Pamol in Bakassi in the South-West region, is part of the logic of occupation of the peninsula.

This project is made possible by a "contract-plan " for a total of 14.3 billion CFA francs, signed between the government of Cameroon and Pamol, the agro-industrial company specialized in the production and processing of palm oil.
