The French company Perenco, leader in oil production in Cameroon through its local subsidiary, proposed and obtained the approval of the National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH) and its partner GDF Suez for the establishment of a floating natural liquefied gas unit off the coastal city of Kribi.

The information was released September 30, 2014 in Yaounde, during a ceremony of farewell organized by SNH, in honor of Denis Clerc-Renaud, CEO of Perenco Cameroon recently transferred to Gabon.

In annual production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas, we learnt that the floating unit "will forward the production of liquefied natural gas in Cameroon in 2017," pending the outcome of the project to build a dedicated plant led by SNH and GDF-Suez.

According to sources, this production of liquefied natural gas will be associated with domestic gas production to about 30,000 tonnes per year, which will increase the domestic production of 45,000 tonnes (since Sonara produces only 15,000 tonnes currently) for a request which often reached 80,000 metric tonnes, according to the stabilization Fund hydrocarbon prices (CSPH).
