Chinese company Sinohydro and the government of Cameroon have agreed to resume the construction of the Mora-Dabanga road in the far north of the country.

The agreement followed shortly after the release of ten of their workers, abducted by the Nigerian Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

The Chinese Synohydro workers, abducted on May 16, 2014 by the militants were freed on October 11 along with seventeen Cameroonians.

In the wake of the abductions, the Chinese firm had suspended work, demanding their release and the reinforcement of security around the construction site.

Public Work Minister, Patrice Amba Salla met those requirements after a meeting with Synohydro officials led by the Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon.

The construction of the 131.5 km-long Mora-Dabanga road is funded by the World Bank and the government of Cameroon to the tune of CFA 38.9 billion.

Construction works which began on August 2013 and scheduled to be completed in 28 months are now six months behind schedule thanks to the kidnapping.
