Sodecoton, which has in recent years begun to diversify its activities to protect itself from the less friendly international situation, aims to produce 16 000 tons of soybean in 2015, learned from internal sources at the company. This production forecast is almost multiplied by 10, compared to the production of 1600 tons projected in 2012.

This dizzying increase in the production of the Sodecoton soybean can be explained by the existence of a market for more applicant, because of the interest that local agro-industries now has for this seed. A soy-processing unit, with a grinding capacity of 18 000 tonnes per year, even opened in the suburbs of the city of Douala April 5, 2014.

This plant will be mainly supplied from soybean production in the region of northernmost part of the country in which the Sodecoton, which could find a new outlet for its production of soybeans, also owns all its production tools.

As a reminder, because of insufficient domestic production, Cameroon is imports on average 20 000 tonnes per year, for a value of more than 10 billion Cfa francs, according to statistics from the Ministry of economy.
