The April 25, 2016 Prime Ministerial decree on the execution of infrastructure projects is under discussion in Yaounde. Regional Delegates started meeting at the Advanced School of Public Works yesterday July 25, 2016, to upgrade skills on what is expected of them as State engineers in the execution of emergency projects.

The new legal framework gives the Ministry of Public Works authority to execute projects in emergency cases where there was no possibility of awarding contracts due to time constraints.

The main objective is to render State engineers more effective and to render services that apply to emergency cases. The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, said while opening the one-week meeting that; “although private companies are involved in road construction and maintenance, State engineers should also be involved in road construction and maintenance.” He explained that private companies will hence receive support from the support now from State engineers.

The get-together is holding on the theme; “Understanding the General Framework of the Implementation of Infrastructure Projects and the Promotion of Environmental and Social Management Documents.” Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi stressed that the new scheme has not come to put the activities of private companies in jeopardy.

On the contrary, it intends to step up the activities of the Ministry of Public Works through emergency interventions on roads in order to avoid the disruption of traffic.
