Telcos, postal networks to standardize mail delivery system

Telecommunications experts in the country are currently drawing up standards in postal infrastructure with the goal of modernizing the sector and rendering mail delivery more efficient in the country.

They met in Yaounde Thursday September 25 under the auspices of the Secretary General in the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Armand Ndjodom, to validate studies on the current state of the sector so as to know how to go about the standards.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Secretary General said government has engaged an irreversible modernization of the postal sector in the country and it is but logical to have efficiency standards for postal infrastructure in place.

He said the country has been functioning with low keyed standards reason why it is necessary to have them more harmonized and respected to the letter.

Meanwhile, the Director of Equipment and Postal Network in the Ministry, Shiywong Sevidzem Austin, said target is the client of the postal sector in town and in hinterlands. “Some peculiar standards which have to be respected are those on post office boxes, distribution standards which for Douala-Yaounde and Douala-Bafoussam are supposed to be D+1and D+2 for Yaounde-Bamenda for example.

These are standards which are supposed to be set and respected for the delivery of postal items be them letters, parcels or packages to whoever may be our customer,” he added.
