Timber tops exports from Cameroon

Five Cameroonian products that rose to the top of exports are wood, banana, cocoa, rubber and cotton APA revealed on Friday, from the national port authority.

1,746 million tonnes of wood were exported, representing 66.2 percent of all exports in Cameroon; second in position is the banana, with 279.506 tonnes, which represents 10.6 percent of the export traffic.

Banana is closely followed by the cocoa with 182.829 tonnes, or 6.9 percent of the traffic followed by rubber, with 47.665 tonnes exported or 5.8 percent of the volume of exports, and cotton, with 133.063 tonnes, which represents 5 percent of the exports.

The total volume of exports at the port of Douala reached 2.639 million tonnes in 2013 from 2.598 million tonnes in 2012. Like exports, imports also experienced an uptick from 6.958 million in 2012 to 7,864 million tonnes in 2013, an increase of 906 tonnes that is 13 per cent in relative value.
