Viettel to repatriate Vietnamese employees 3 months after launch

Facing accusations of massive importation of labor from Viet Nam which it investigated, Viettel Cameroon, the 3rd mobile operator, announces that Vietnamese who currently constitute the bulk of the strength of the company, will be repatriated 'three months after the beginning of activities' officially scheduled for September 18, 2014.

"We fully understand the concern of Cameroonians who see their jobs threatened. But we reassure the Cameroonian youth that the expatriation staff of Viettel Cameroon is used temporarily," promises Moïse Bayi, the Deputy Director of Viettel Cameroon, in a development published in the Cameroonian Government daily.

This release by the Viettel DGA follows concerns expressed through the media by a member of the Board of Directors of the company.

Revealing the persistent tensions on the Board of Directors of Viettel, Jules Kenmy revealed that administrators and the Vietnamese partner of Telecoms Company do not agree on policy for the management of human resources to be implemented by the company.

Indeed, he said, the Vietnamese partner aims to import to Cameroon up till producers, wholesale distributors and retailers of products (Sim cards, credits of communication...) of this new mobile operator.

A project which Cameroonian administrators opposed, based on the promise of 6300 local jobs, made to the Government by Viettel Cameroon, at the time of the signing of the contract of concession in 2012.
