Water-energy forum opens as part of Promote 2014

The second edition of the Forum of water and energy opened Thursday at the Congress Hall. Three years after the holding of its first edition, the water-energy forum has reopened its doors as part of the exhibition Promote 2014.

The Congress Hall welcomed experts in water and energy issues Thursday from diverse backgrounds under the theme: "Hydroelectricity in Cameroon, some challenges".

Thus, exchanges and debates revolve around several themes including some related to the issues and challenges of the development of the hydroelectric potential in Cameroon, the development program of the great hydroelectric sites on the Sanaga River watershed and the financing of major hydro-electric projects. Alternative renewable energy, regional integration, the development of energy infrastructure, technology transfer were also on the menu of discussions.

According to the organizer of the meeting, EDC in partnership with the Inter-progress Foundation, "Promote is the ideal forum to discuss issues related to energy and the challenges surrounding the hydroelectricity in Cameroon, in Africa and throughout the world." According to the structure, this forum is an "opportunity to promote cooperation and investment opportunities in the sector, an exceptional promotion of knowledge and know-how, an opportunity to contribute to the issues of water and energy in Africa in general and Cameroon in particular'.

The water and Energy Minister, Basile Atangana Kouna, who opened the work stated that: "it is an excellent idea which aims to inform and train," and make noted that: "today, almost one and a half billion people on the planet do not have access to safe water. Nearly 2 billion do not have access to energy".

The Minister also indicated that the emergency plan is intended to strengthen the Government's efforts in the areas of energy and water. And concluded: "tomorrow we will be forced to consume less, I mean better, to meet our needs, expectations of future generations, while respecting nature."
