Fongod Edwin Nuvaga has been commissioned as new Director General of the Cameroon Customs. He was officially installed in Yaounde by Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey, Tuesday December 29, 2015.

Born some 53 years ago, Fongod is the second Anglophone to hold the position after Ba Nkom Raymond Gwanyalla.

Appointed by a presidential decree on December 21, 2015, the senior customs inspector (super scale) was until his appointment, chief of the communication department of customs. He takes over from Minette Libom Li Likeng, who was appointed Minister of Posts and Telecommunication on October 2, 2015.

While commissioning Fongod as the head of the directorate general of customs, Finance Minister, Alamine implored him among other things to ensure that more revenue mobilization is realized from the customs. He said the department is expected to raise 750 billion FCFA in 2016. The minister also challenged the new customs boss not only to focus on the collection of revenue but also to ensure the security of the national territory by being vigilant at the borders.

Fongod has the task of maintaining and improving on his predecessor’s record by upholding dynamism and performance in the collection of revenue, the minister added.

“Continue follow-up of the computerization of customs operations, extend the Sydonia ++ system and reduce the delay in the clearance of goods at the Douala ports,” Alamine said.

Fongod was told to be on the alert to take necessary dispositions in the Kribi port as soon as it goes operational.
The new customs boss, born in Bali, Northwest Region was the best graduating student of the 1987-1989 batch of finance administrators (with customs as option) from the National School of Administration and Magistracy, ENAM Yaounde.
