38 suspected criminals arrested in Bertoua

They were arrested thanks to a police patrols in the city on 14 and 15 November. Police patrols have intensified on the eve of the end of year holiday.

The “Operation Orient” still struck a blow in the town of Bertoua, the past weekend. Under the leadership of the central Commissioner of the city of Bertoua, Aboubakar, this operation targeted some populated areas of the city.

This activity allowed them lay hands on 38 suspected criminals, on 15 November. They were arrested for various reasons: membership of some mafia networks and lack of national identity cards for other. Some were accused of disturbing public order. Those whose parents brought their identity cards and had not committed any other offence were released after operation.

Operation Orient is led jointly by the elements of the central police station of Bertoua and the mobile intervention group (GMI), with the collaboration of the offices of public security of the surrounding boroughs of Bertoua.

It was noticed that among the 38 individuals, a Central African by the name Harouna was arrested. He is presented as a refugee, but he could not produce evidence of his status. This was therefore an irregular situation. Harouna and his accomplices were placed in custody, for careful operation.

According to Aboubakar, Operation Orient will extend until the eve of New Year celebrations. The objective is to enable the citizens of Bertoua and its surroundings have their end of years in order, peace and quietness.
