Bandits now have a new strategy. They enter school campuses pretending to be parents about to pay fees and equally queue up. And when it is their turn they hold up the person collecting money. A case in point is Sacred Heart College Mankon where Monday September 3, 2012, armed bandits successfully carried out a spectacular robbery. It was reopening day for Forms two, three, four and five. While the administration was busy receiving students, some parents were lined up to pay fees for the children. A member of a gang of armed bandits equally came like parents and respected the queue. When it was his time to pay, he quickly removed his gun and held up the bursar Rev. Sister Yvette Lahfen.
Eyewitness accounts say the other bandits were already positioned at strategic places of the school. After placing the bursar at gunpoint, they seized a bag from another Rev. Sister nearby, removed her laptop from it, threw it on the floor and put the money inside the bag before escaping into thin air.
According to the principal of Sacred Heart College Mankon, Reverend Father Michael Kintang, the incident happened between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m on Monday September 3rd. He said the bandits made away with FCFA 30 million which was fees collected from the 2nd and 3rd of September. He assured that nobody was harmed and classes are presently going on effectively.
A few days to school reopening, bandits attacked Starlight College Nkwen and Presbyterian Secondary School, PSS, Nkwen. They made away with huge sums of money.
