Richard Moki Monono, former Interim District Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, in Limbe was on Thursday, July 24, locked up at the Limbe Gendarmerie Brigade alongside one Sammy Rhoom and Isaac Carr on the instructions of the Fako SDO, Zang III.
The trio who are said to be members of a certain traditional council of the Livanda Congo settlement in the Limbe I Sub Division are to have, on their own, dethroned two quarter heads: Patrick Ngongang and George Tamba, and replaced them with new ones.
The act is said to have infuriated the Limbe administration and the SDO swooped on the three traditional Councilors and they were apprehended and detained.
From what The Post gathered, the former SDF District Chair who was the Secretary of the Traditional Council had decided to sack the above quarter heads of some two quarters in Livanda Congo area in Limbe without any authorization from the DO or SDO.
They are said to have simply copied the DO after having reshuffled the heads of these said two quarters and complemented their action by installing new ones.
The sacked quarter heads then lodged complaints to the DO and the security against the actions of this Traditional Council and investigations were ordered.
It was based on the findings of what happened that the SDO ordered for their arrest and detention. The SDO is said to have reproached them for gross usurpation of powers, which are said to reside only with recognized chiefs or traditional rulers.
When The Post visited the Gendarmerie Brigade, the detained refused to comment.
But some sympathetic quarter residents informed the The Post that the decision to sack the three was taken, based on the fact that Monono and his others had come to the conclusion that the two sacked heads were not performing their duties fully.
Some said the quarter heads in question, had, on many occasions, been absent from matters or events that needed their presence or interventions.
Meanwhile, as at Thursday and Friday, July 25, frantic efforts were being made by relations of the detained and other persons to see if the SDO could be convinced to soften his stance and let the trio regain their freedoms.
But the atmosphere at the Gendarmerie did not look like they might be out so soon, as many said it was an administrative detention and any release might only come after 15 days.
