A 30-year-old man was heard in the Court of First Instance in Ekounou for having set his landlord on fire.

According to the facts available, Simon M. and his girlfriend Nathalie E moved two months ago into a compound at Waffo, in the kondengui district. He then noticed changes in behaviour of his girlfriend who became nocturnal and made outings her hobby, sometimes abandoning their two-year-old girl with neighbors despite multiple warnings of her companion.

This pushed Simon to "investigate". His findings revealed the love affair of Nathalie E. with their landlord. On December 20, 2014, while they (landlord and girlfriend of Simon) were lodged in a hotel in the city, the lovers were surprised with the sudden appearance of Simon with a bottle of gasoline and matches.

Nathalie E. managed to escape without saying a word and Simon M. poured the contents of the bottle on his rival and set him on fire. Fortunately for him, the hotel employees came to his rescue but his head, face and parts of his torso were affected. The case was adjourned to March 27.
