27year-old Hassan Saidou narrowly escaped public lynching on Sunday, 31th August 2014, in Bertoua, Capital of the East Region.

He was rescued by the Gendarmerie from the rage of the people of the Mbongo village at the end of one of the group’s operations. The suspected gang leader supposedly at the helm of a group of 8 went out stealing and stabbed a herdsman in the process.

Six of the eight suspects escaped, but Hassan was caught on the spot while his friend who was directly engaged in the crime got caught later as he attempted to leave the village.

This notorious gang had most often deprived their victims mostly cattle rearers and business people of money, cattle, gold and other valuable items in the villages of Gura and Betari oya in the East.

Determined to put an end to their activities, the angry mob expressed the determination to kill the suspect.

Presently the six other members are on the run at a time when security officials have opened investigations.
