He was among a gang that carried out several attacks and plundered homes in Bonaberi.

An armed robber suspect has been shot dead by Rapid Intervention Unit police in Douala. The 20-year-old young man whose name the police got as Pappy was shot after the gang wrecked havoc at the Bamboutos neighbourhood in Bonaberi last week.

Meanwhile, his friend in crime, 29-year-old Jacob Ritygap was arrested. During their night operation, the assailants shot the Quarter Head on the stomach with a locally-made gun and later assaulted a customs officer, Nintai Fisanjoh. The Quarter Head was rushed to the CEBEC Hospital in Bonaberi.

Police, acting on tip off, rushed to the scene as the robbers quickly vamoosed, but Pappy who was hiding inside a culvert leading to a nearby stream attempted to open fire but was overpowered and killed in the process. A further search of the area led to the discovery and arrest of Jacob Ritygap. In the hand of the latter was a well-sharpened double-edged machete, two mobile phones, an MTN Sim card and FCFA 5,000.

Upon interrogation, Ritygap declared that the gun they were using was owned by the late Pappy. After learning of the death of one of the robbers, the inhabitants of Bonaberi expressed a lot of satisfaction, saying they are subjected to such armed attacks on a daily basis. The suspect and his booty were taken to the Judicial Police in Bonanjo where further investigations continue.
