Men of the underworld in Kumba in Meme Division of the South West Region are making life unbearable for taxi cab passengers. Even walking on the streets is no longer safe as armed men now attack with impunity.

Cases of robbery in taxis are recurrent and disturbing. Recently, a lady was dispossessed of her handbag and other valuables in a taxi. The victim, identified simply as Charlotte, is reported to have boarded a taxi from Kumba Main Market to Fiango when the incident occurred. She was attacked with a knife along the way, precisely near Hausa Quarters and forced to surrender her belongings.

Other cases of robbery in taxis have also been reported in the Kossala neighbourhood. One of the victims whose name CAMNEWS got as Charles, sustained injuries as he tried to resist the hoodlums. He was forced to part with FCFA 50,000 and his cell phone. In a related story, two alleged bandits are reported to have exchanged blows on Friday at Mbonge Road, Kumba after stealing FCFA 80.000 from a passer-by. Reports say the dispute erupted over the amount each of them was to get from the booty. One of them is said to have sustained injuries around the eyebrow.
