An open letter to the servants of God

Cameroon has been invaded by a proliferation of churches. One of the major reasons why people attend these churches, despite their numbers, is to know what God says about their soul-searching questions.

People want to know what God has in a package for them. Some believe that the solution to their problems is found in a name such as the church, in a pastor, in a prophet or man-of-God.

Many who have discovered this weakness in people have resolved to use unorthodox means to lure people into various types of money making societies in the name of a church, harboring militants called church members, Christians, worshipers, believers, followers, congregations, brothers or sisters in Christ.

In order to maintain their congregations, traditional or standard churches such as Baptist, Catholic and Presbyterian churches are beginning to emulate some of the eccentric practices. These churches are also failing in their duty to deliver the message of God to people. Most of the servants of God found in these churches believe that people go to church throughout the year just to know the bible.

Far from that,what matter in a church is the spiritual attachment to the word of God known by people.What is God saying about happenings with individuals or families, in the communities, in the country or all over the world? These are worries that servants of God need to relate to people using the word of God. The only reason people still attend standard churches is because their projects are better managed.

I was surprised when an accident happened at theTiko-Douala road and my servant of God didnot talk about it in church the following Sunday to enlighten the people what God says about the situation. It was really astonishing to know that during elections in Cameroon some servants of God had nothing to utter in their churches concerning God’s wish about elections.

A man died close to the church and the servant of God failed to mention in church because he belonged to a different church.These and more are the pending situations to be addressed by a living church instead of being stigmatized with the old dogma.

The most shocking happened when a man of God preached while drawing inspiration from Galatians 6:7; ‘Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap’; KJV. He ended up praying for God to give wisdom to the president to rule the people; This happened after the Right Reverend Dr. Festus Asana, talked during his interview on CRTV about stepping aside from moderator of Presbyterian Church in Cameroon to monitor the young generation grow; It happened after the churches in South Africa a few days ago joined the masses all over the world to immortalize the life of Nelson Mandela after the abolition of apartheid; This happened after the truth prevailed in Bokina-Faso to set the people free.

I got annoyed but the one thing which pleased me was that the prayer was read and offered to the president of a group.

Many servants of God are not current with their environment. They have the word of God but do not have the power to deliver to believers. God is the same and His word is dynamic with context. Times are changing, people are not stagnant and you, the servants of God, need more skills, more knowledge and more wisdom to deliver the message of God to people.

It is a challenge or lest you are thrown out. The bible has gone digital. Whether you like it or not you have to be a digital citizen, a digital pastor, a digital father, a digital prophet or a digital man-of-God.

It is not just a radio pastor or radio preacher. I suggest it is time to equip our servants of God with laptops, Ipads or smartphones with internet connectivity. ‘And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season, we shall reap, if we faint not’; Galatians 6:9 (KJV).
