Biya has come and gone and I am sure that the Dr. Lyonga regime that wanted to exploit Biya’s coming to settle scores with the top brass of SYNES UB must be feeling very frustrated now.
I am too sure that they will not have another opportunity to whip up security sentiments as a way of indicting top SYNES Officials. It is rather unfortunate for the Dr. Lyonga administration that the manjong club that was formed with the aim of destabilizing SYNES using police intimidation ended up with severe casualties on their own end.
This manjong club that was composed of Dr. Lyonga, Professor Ngoh, Commissioner Ntoh Denis and the governor has been dismantled with the timely transfer of Ngoh and Ntoh who were the most crocked actors in the game.
When Dr. Lyonga took to the rostrum as the VC, she had three secret agendas: 1. To destroy UBSU 2. To destroy SYNES 3. To take back their Bakweri University from non-Bakwerians
Haven recorded limited successes with UBSU because of the use of brute force to intimidate students; she thought it was the turn of SYNES.
But unfortunately for her she met with her waterloo and that is why the casualties are instead falling on their own side, Commissioner Ntoh demoted and Ngoh sent on punitive transfer who knows next.
With almost nothing achieved on the first two secret agendas, she is left with the third which is to me her only legacy that she will leave when she certainly quits power in less than two years from now.
Since Nalova took over as VC all her appointments are geared towards her Bakwerinization grand design. It is shocking that an intellectual of this age will be so tribalistic and narrow minded the way she is going.
The peak of the Bakwerinization policy of Nalova was noticed in the last recruitment of support staff and the internal redeployments. She thinks that where there is money should automatically be occupied by a son or daughter of the soil to the disadvantage of other competent non-Bakwerians.
There is ample evidence that even Bakwerians who are on retirement within the institution are holding tight to their positions and draining university resources.
A case in point is what is happening with the Faculty of Arts. I hope the Dean is not an accomplice to this secret agenda of maintaining retired workers that are now a burden to the Faculty budget.
My advice to Dr. Lyonga and her Etat major is that empowering Bakwerians with temporal campus Chiefs of Services will not be long lasting because it takes the discretion of the next VC to maintain them there or even bring in his/her team.
So, is administration made to be tribalistic, can there be continuity and sustainability? What makes you think that only Bakwerians should hold certain positions? Is it because the university is on their soil or because they are the most educated and most competent to handle these positions?
When a university is left in the hands of the most irresponsible administrators we can only reap the kind of results we are witnessing. Online registration is just a smoke screen just like exams have witnessed the most deteriorating outcome. What makes the UB of today, the UB of the 1990s?
