Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o, Cameroon's Minister of Defense, yesterday visited the Cameroonian and Chadian soldiers wounded a week ago during the bloody raid on the City of Fotokol in the Far North region of Cameroon by militants of the Nigerian Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
Cameroon Concord understands that the wounded soldiers are receiving treatment in hospitals in Yaounde and Maroua. Our chief political correspondent in Yaoundé revealed that there are 68 Chadian soldiers and hundreds of injured Cameroonian servicemen who are hospitalized and taken care of by the Cameroon government due to special agreements signed with the Republic of Chad.
During his tour, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o presented on camera to each injured soldier a hundred thousand FCFA. The gesture performed by the Minister for Defense has been broadcasted repeatedly on TV channels both in Cameroon and Chad.
Cameroon Concord has so far received seven thousand five hundred and twenty-one reactions on face book and emails from our readers calling on President Biya to fire Minister Alain Mebe Ngo’o.
A highly placed Cameroon military official who spoke to us from the military headquarters in Yaounde, said he was at a loss to see a Defence Minister appearing before the cameras and dishing out money to wounded soldiers!!!
The attitude of Minister Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o was shameful, disgusting and disgraceful. Cameroon Concord is aware that no Defence Minister has stayed in government after such poor outing in time of war.
Michel Meva Meboutou was given a sack after he did a similar thing during the Bakassi crisis. We now call on President Paul Biya to take the necessary measures associated with a serious Commander-in-Chief. Sack Minister Edgard Mebe Ngo’o immediately!!
