GTC NSEH Receives New Classrooms, Equipment

The FCFA 6 million project was carried out with the assistance of Heifer Project International, Cameroon.

The livestock development charity, Heifer Project International, Cameroon, on July 2, 2014, at Nseh, Nkum Sub-division in Bui Division of the North West Region, handed over to the authorities of Government Technical College, GTC Nseh, a three-classroom block it helped to build and equip.

The FCFA 6 million project was implemented in partnership with three Heifer Cameroon-assisted farming groups - Bongsiyi, Konglim and Mbohgwem, all from Nseh. The event was led by Heifer's Vice President for Africa Area Programmes, Cameroonian-born Elizabeth Bintliff, in the presence of the Second Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Bui Division, Meke Brice Olinga, HPI Cameroon Country Director, Dr. Humphrey Taboh and HPI Zimbabwe Country Programme Manager, Sibusisiwe Mbedzi.

According to Bintliff, the donation is to ensure that local young people receive education in comfortable conditions; education being one of the cornerstones of HPI's development approach. Meke Brice Olinga, who assisted Elizabeth Bintliff in cutting the symbolic ribbon to hand over the building, thanked Heifer for carrying out the project, paying tribute to the Fon of Nseh and the farmers who partnered with HPI to complete the project.

Meke Brice called on the Principal of GTC Nseh, Bernge Emmanuel Simaah and the 82 students of the two-year old school, to ensure judicious use of the classrooms and the 90 benches, tables and chairs donated by HPI. The President of the Nseh Development and Cultural Association, Mangjo Christian Ngah, the Mayor of Nkum Council, Suila Aruna Kidze, the traditional ruler of Nseh, Fon Senyuy Oliver N. Fonban II, and Bernge Emmanuel Simaah, all poured encomiums on Heifer for seeing through the project that was started three years ago by the community, but could not be completed for want of funds and material.

According to Dr. Nintai Grace Kefeh, HPI Cameroon Coordinator for Bui and Donga-Mantung Divisions, Heifer did the roofing and other finishing on the building. Various speakers, while remaining thankful to HPI for the gift and empowerment of local women with sheep farming and training to become trainers in their communities, called on HPI not only to help the Nseh community, but to extend assistance to other needy communities in Bui Division and beyond.

They appealed to HPI to support the Takijah Community Hall and the Memfu Community Secondary School in roofing, finishing works and benches as well as furnishing the buildings with equipment. The highlights of the occasion, which was graced with feasting and traditional dances in the palace of the Fon of Nseh, included the unveiling of the HPI placard on the wall of the building by Elizabeth Bintliff.

Bintliff, Dr. Humphrey Taboh, Sibusisiwe Mbedzi, Dr.Nintai Grace Kefeh and Agnes Laisin, Heifer Team Leader for the North West, Littoral and South West Regions, were awarded traditional titles of 'Shey' and 'Yah.' Also attending the ceremony was Heifer International's Communications Officer, Brooke Edwards.
