How Do We Ensure the March Forward...

The mood of the anniversary celebration, in Buea was well encapsulated last evening in a live theatrical presentation of the entire life of Cameroon as a nation. Its history from the time of the discovery of the Carthaginian sailor Hanno, leading up to the discovery of the Wouri estuary by Portuguse explorers who gave the description of Rio do Cameroes, aka river of prawns, which was later to become the name of Cameroon.

This live event was in effect a rendition of the play written by the Minister of Youth Affairs Bidoung Mkpwat with ProfessorAnnTanyi Tany as artistic director and the famed actor Ambroise Mbia as technical adviser. Altogether, some 240 actors took part in the event with some 300 choristers accompanying them. As an introductory note accompanying the event stated, the dramatic presentation, also referred to as an historic fresco, is actually a collective creation integrating all the arts such as poetry, theatre, dancing etc to give an account of the history of Cameroon as it has continued to be created.

The highly-attended evening was chaired by the Minister-Director of the Civil Cabinet of the President of the Republic Martin Belinga Eboutou who is also chair of the organizing committee of the 50th anniversary celebrations of independence and reunification. He sat in at last night's event on behalf of the Head of State.
