Who is a friend?

I ask myself: "Why am I finding it difficult to expand my territory in article writing when I have many "friends" who are all capable of facilitating it?"

Therefore, this article is directed towards my many "friends" who do not understand the real meaning of friendship. And for the purposes of this article, a friend is a person who shares in the way of life of another, and he is the helper of that person all in love, irrespective of the religious, cultural, political, educational and social differences.

Also, friendship as per the above definition must be mutual or reciprocal. And any person claiming to be a friend by simply interacting with and liking another is not a friend, and may even be an acquaintance.

The above definition of a friend I gave is very broad because a friend shares in the present struggles or progress of another. This friend helps the other person and would share in that person's future success or failure. Notice that the shares of a friend is in two separate ways. THE FIRST SHARE IS HIS RESPONSIBILITY AND THE SECOND SHARE IS HIS RIGHT!

Moreover, if you dispute all the above explanations, I would cite a perfect example followed by a better one to prove my explanations. The perfect example is recorded in 1 Samuel 18-20 of the Holy Bible, but 1 Samuel 18:3 is the striking verse. This friendship was between David and Jonathan, for Jonathan displayed all the above descriptions given.

Also, the better example is the friendship between my own mother, Florence Aggrey and her friend and now a sister, Ayishetu Abu. My mum is a church leader and her friend is a devout Muslim, but Ayishetu Abu demonstrates all the above descriptions given.

Lastly, if you claim to be my friend but you do not share in my way of life and help me, you would have no right to associate yourself with my future success. This is because you have no responsibility to show and I would say to you on that day: "I never knew you as my friend...!"

However, you would benefit from my success but with limitation. And as the writer of this article, I am striving to live the life of a friend in the lives of others, so that my right would be sealed. Therefore, I ask you: "Are you my friend, and am I your friend?"
