Busy schedule ahead for judo Lions

They are in camp to prepare for the upcoming African championship, the African games and world championship.

There is no room for respite for the judo national team. Shortly after taking part in the Africa Open tournament in Morocco, the judo national selection comprising nine boys and nine girls went into camp to start preparing for the African champion to take place in Libreville-Gabon from April 20th to 26th, 2015. The training camp which began yesterday will run to their departure on April 20th.

After the African championship, the world championship will follow suit and both competitions offer points for qualification for the Olympic Games in Rio 2016. The judo selection will also be taking part in the African games coming up in Congo-Brazzaville in September. The judo delegation to the various competitions will comprise 14 athletes, four trainers, an official from the sports ministry and Fecajudo as well as a physiotherapist.

Meanwhile, the president of the Cameroon judo federation, Alain Kingue has distanced self from the veteran association. He said the association was run by someone (Gabriel Simo) who has been radiated from the federation and the association is not affiliated to the federation.

He said according to a new law from the International Judo federation of 20th March 2015, the activities of veteran associations have to be regulated by national federations. He said there is a commission at Fecajudo which manages only associations affiliated to the federation.

He refuted allegations that he was invited to the meeting saying the organizers of the veterans confab took advantage of the fact that he was away in Ebolowa with the Olympic Committee to schedule the meeting.

Alain Kingue said Gabriel Simo started fighting the current executive of the federation even before they took over office, writings letters to the Minister of Sports and Physical Education to give the impression everything was not well with the federation, an attitude which led to his exclusion from the judo family on January 25, 2013.
