IAAF boss attends CAA Council Meeting in Yaounde

IAAF President Sebastian Coe, accompanied by IAAF General Secretary/CEO Jean Gracia, attended the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Council Meeting in the Cameroon capital Yaounde on Sunday (13).

After an opening ceremony in the presence of Pierre Ismael Bidoung Kpwatt, Cameroon’s Minister of Sport and Physical Education, as well as African Union representative Machacha Shepande the Council Meeting commenced and the topics discussed included: the current situation of the fight against doping and in particular the cases of Ethiopia, Morocco and Kenya; the IAAF Regional Development Centres (RDCs) and High Performance Training Centres (HPTCs); IAAF Member Federation grants as well as Athletics’ Olympic dividend.

The Council meeting took place the day after Yaounde hosted the 4th African Cross Country Championships, and an activity report on the event was presented.

Aleck Skhosana (RSA) also presented a progress report about the organisation of African Championships in Durban in June 2016.

IAAF President Coe and IAAF General Secretary/CEO Gracia later met with the Cameroon Prime Minister Philemon Yang before attending a dinner hosted by the Minister of Sport and Physical Education.
