On the strength of revelations by the Minister of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure; Jacqueline Koung a Bessike, Land Reserves have been created in the North West Region. The visiting Minister told stakeholders in Bamenda on October 19, 2012 that the Region will soon jump for joy with 100 hectares of land for social housing and 1,000 hectares to serve as State Layout.

It was against this backdrop that Minister Jacqueline Koung a Bessike said a team will be on the field soon to identify, demarcate and secure land for the creation of land reserves and social housing intended to endow the State with adequate legal and an institutional framework to boost the ambitious programme to enhance the development of the Region with resources towards emergence.

The creation of land reserves, according to the minister, inspires growth and employment projects in the Ministry's efforts to give a fresh push with greater ambition projects. It emerged from the minister's field visit that five hectares of land have already been identified for the construction of low cost or social houses in the Mendankwe neighbourhood in collaboration with a Chinese company and another five-hectare land in Manda, Nkwen for a similar investment by the nation's real estate company, SIC.

Minister Koung a Bessike stated the determination of the ministry to improve conditions for access to landed property and appealed to stakeholders to uphold the government's initiative to promote growth and development of agriculture. Sustainable development is at the centre of the creation of land reserves and the minister took time off to warn against any anarchical occupation of the said reserves or encroachment.
