1000 Bolloré Africa Logistics employees join health walk

Of the 6,000 people who took part in the 2014 edition of the "Walk for the Heart" organized on the occasion of the World Day of heart on September 28, in Douala, "more than 1,000 were employees of subsidiaries of Bolloré Africa Logistics business", said a statement by the group who have 25,000 employees in Cameroon.

Represented by its subsidiaries that are Camrail, SEPBC, Socopao and DIT alongside the Cameroonian Cardiology Society in organizing the annual walk, "Bolloré Africa Logistics Cameroon expresses its commitment to the awareness, prevention and control against heart disease," says the French group.

According to Engelbert Djouomo, the head of internal communication, ethics and sustainable development of Bolloré Africa Logistics Cameroon, by forging a partnership with the Cameroon Cardiology Society for the "Walk for the Heart", the "Bolloré group wanted to raise awareness both to the general public and its employees in the prevention campaign. Sport can help reduce the risk of heart attack, sudden death and stroke".

In Cameroon, more than 17,000 hypertensives die annually in recent years, according to statistics from the Cameroon Cardiology Society, which is concerned about the rising trend.

According to the same source, 24% of deaths registered in Cameroon are due to stroke, while 18% of these deaths are sudden deaths.

These and many cardiovascular diseases tasks the Cameroon Cardiology Society, with the support of some companies, to toil in recent years to educate Cameroonians.
