A group of traffickers was intercepted by security agents last week in Bépanda, Douala, transporting and distributing contraband fuel. They may appear in court on Monday.

A police source say the men caught with 10 petrol tanks (2,500 litres) and grilled for illicit trade, use and distribution of the fuel by Judicial Police in Bonanjo, were temporarily detained and their truck confiscated.

The contraband fuel was being transported in a Renault van with number plate LT-042-DW. After suspecting the doubtful origin of the banned fuel, the Special Teams for Rapid Intervention in Douala on routine patrol proceeded to intercept the truck and its occupants at the Bépanda neighbourhood by night on December 3, 2014.

The illicit fuel was taken to Littoral Regional Delegation of Mines and Energy for quality control. Meanwhile, the illicit petroleum dealers and their truck were taken to the Littoral Regional Division of the Judicial Police for further investigations.
