40 Hectares of Land for Babessi Flood Victims

It may soon be well with victims of the September 9th, 2012 floods in Babessi Sub division. In effect, the Ngoketungia Divisional Commission handling the crisis with the SDO at the helm, has carved out some 40 hectares of land to resettle the victims and interested people of Babessi.

The Commission was in Babessi on September 24th, 2012 with a message that the town has to be re-located in the Nchingong neighbourhood around the Babessi Council and the Gendarmerie Brigade.

The good faith of the decision is not welcome by all with some victims with investments in the flood area resisting but the Commission says Babessi is basically a flood basin with the security of inhabitants at stake. In the short and long of it, the Administration of Ngoketungia Division say the decision has been inspired by the need to secure people and property. The D.O of Babessi Sub division, Ali Anogu told CT that the new site to settle the flood victims is still covered by bush and the SDO of Ngoketungia has solicited the UNVDA Agro-industry and the Satum Construction company doing the Babungo-Babessi stretch of the Ring road to help open the area for planning to take place before victims can move to the site.

Some 95 people from 26 families have been declared homeless following the floods of September 9th, 2012 that covered Babessi, causing enormous damage and destruction to some 59 houses and farmlands.
