8 die in a fire at Mboppi

A woman and 7 children who are the family of Sylvain Akoumé, perished in a fire outbreak on Wednesday.

The home of the Akoume family, at a place called Mboppi was reduced to ashes by violent fire. On Thursday, 12th February, in the morning, neighbors and other onlookers wondered how this could happen and why none of the eight victims were able to escape?

"The fire was very violent from the start," noted Carl, a close neighbour whose wall was affected by the flames. "I entered by the other side when I saw the flames, around 9.30 pm," he added, before confessing his ignorance as to the origin of the fire.

The fire brigade officer did not say what caused the fire. The eight bodies have been sent to the Laquintinie hospital mortuary.
