The South West Regional branch for Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) is brazing up for the first ever senatorial polls in Cameroon coming up 14 October.
Mr. Emmanuel Njang, Regional Delegate of ELECAM, told Cameroon Tribune Tuesday morning that voting material was being transported to the 17 polling stations earmarked in the six Divisional headquarters of the South West. "By weekend all polling centres shall have had their ballot papers and all polling material," Mr. Njang assured. Polling officers will be trained in the days ahead to ensure that the 855 Councilors of the South West vote without hurdles come 14 April. The Regional Delegate sealed his lips to the question whether the Councilors have started cashing their CFA 50.000 each announced earlier. "I will not make a statement because it can invite thieves to trail the Councilors or ELECAM offices. The truth is that they will have their money as due," Njang replied to Cameroon Tribune.
The South West Region is fielding candidates on two lists from just two political parties namely: the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) and the leading opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF). Voting by list makes it even easier for campaigns as many of the candidates from both sides are privileged to fly on others' wings. While the SDF was in Kumba yesterday (2 April) to drum their campaign, the CPDM took to Limbe to campaign for their list of seven senatorial candidates.
Fako's Divisional capital, Limbe, shall open four polling stations at GHS- Limbe(A B C and D) for some 216 Councilor-voters. Kupe Muanenguba's chief town, Bangem, shall have two polling stations at their Government Primary School (A and B) for 84 voters. Menji, the Divisional capital of Lebialem, will accommodate 92 Councilor-voters at Government Technical High School (GTHS-Fontem). Manyu's 106 voters will assemble at Government High School Mamfe (A and B) to vote in two polling stations. Meme's 144 voters will move to Government Bilingual Primary School Kumba Mbeng for three polling stations, A B and C. Meanwhile four polling stations have been designed at the Catholic School Mundemba (A B C and D) for 213 Councilor-voters from Ndian's nine Councils.
