Recently, Ambassador Hoza welcomed thirty-five elementary English language teachers for a two day workshop, at the Information Resource Center in the U.S. Embassy, on the theme: “Literacy and Peace Education: Activities for the Classroom.”
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Michael Hoza highlighted the important role teachers play in today's world where conflict and crisis situations are abundant. “ You are critical in raising children’s awareness of the virtues of mutual understanding, tolerance and peace,” he told the teachers.
Led by U.S. Government exchange program alumni, Mrs. Martina Mbayu Nana and Mrs Ernestine Mbacham, the workshops included modules on using games in the classroom, identifying conflict situations, the role of language in sparking or solving conflicts and conflict-solving skills for children.
Mrs. Dorine Takam, New Media Manager introduced participants to Web 2.0 tools for English language teaching.
