The Memorial Trust Fund was launched in Buea on Saturday 18 October 2014 with the main objective of promoting education of young girls.
Three years after her passing on, Anne Mojoko Musonge, late wife of former Prime Minister of Cameroon, Senator Peter Mafany Musonge, has been immortalized. A foundation bearing her name – The Anne Mojoko Musonge Memorial Trust was launched in Buea on Saturday 18 October 2014 by family members and friends.
The foundation has as objective to foster the education of young girls aged between 12 and 22, through the award of scholarships and grants.
The President of the Republic was represented at the launching ceremony by the Minister, Assistant Secretary General of the Presidency, Prof. Nfor Peter Agbor-Tabi. Hon. Monjowa Lifaka, Vice-President of the National Assembly represented the House Speaker Cavaye Yeguei Djibril, while the Senate president was also represented by Senator Daniel Matute.
Other dignitaries at the event included Ministers, Senators, Members of National Assembly, General Managers of public and para-public corporations, Directors, mayors and a host of CPDM barons.
Presiding over the grand launch, the minister of women’s empowerment and the family, Prof. Marie Therese Abena Ondoua, enjoined all Cameroonians to support what she described as “a lofty idea”. She said the memorial is a veritable financial tool that will help to boost government’s drive towards fostering the education of the girl child, especial in the South West region, where 35% of girls do not have access to secondary education.
For his part, the grand chancellor of National Orders, Senator Peter Mafany Musonge, who is husband to the late Mrs. Anne Mojoko made a solemn pledge to lead the 5-member Board of Trustees in sustaining the project which seeks to sponsor institutions and girls through secondary and university education. Senator Musonge expressed gratitude to the Head of State Paul Biya and his friends and well-wishers for their support for the wonderful idea.
Speaker after speaker on the occasion were full of eulogies for the late Anne Mojoko. The President of the National Communication Council, veteran journalist Peter Esoka described Anne Musonge as “a woman of the people; the mayor of Buea Patrick Ekema described her as a crusader and ambassador of education.
All the guests at the event took turns to contribute financially to the Trust Fund that would be used to finance the emancipation of young girls in Cameroon through education.
